Quality control
Our GPS collars are required to pass more than 15 tests before we allow them to be shipped out to the customer.
Obviously most of these tests are done in our lab.
However, we also subject each collar to a field test. GPS and wireless technology is very complex. Interestingly, a collar can pass lab tests with flying colors and fail in the field. This is the nature of RF technology. That is why every single one of our GPS collars must go through our field test.br>
What is involved in our field test? The collar is tested for the following:
- No missed GPS locations during test period.
- Ability to acquire GPS positions in an appropriate time frame -low time to fix.
- PDOP, HDOP, and VDOP must be seen to be appropriately low.
- Correct GPS coordinates must be achieved.
- Temperature accurately recorded by collar.
- Vast majority of fixes must be 3D.
- Handshake quickly established between base station unit and GPS collar at 1 mile range. (Quantum 5000 only)
- GPS data transfer properly transferred at 1 mile range. (Quantum 5000 only)
- VHF beacon strong at 1 mile range.
- Drop off must activate and collar separate.
We perform these field tests first thing every morning. If you have collars on order with us feel free to contact us anytime after 9:00 a.m. (P.D.T.) for an update regarding your collars' field test performance.
