Exhibitors in Madison

Monday, October 31st, 2005

Have you noticed lately the number of companies there are selling wildlife telemetry equipment? At The Wildlife Society conference in Madison there were 11 telemetry companies represented. It may interest you to know that we telemetry suppliers tend to travel to these conferences all over the world and often see each other over and over, year after year. We see each other in one country one month and somewhere completely different the very next month. At the conferences, when we are not busy with customers, we tend to do the rounds and say hello to one another. We are a friendly group, strange as that may seem since we are all competing with each other. We chat, inquire about each other’s businesses and generally complain about the weather. One of the more interesting tidbits that I picked up was a piece of personal information from a telemetry company owner. He is actually building his own aircraft. I made the mistake of asking him if the plane was almost finished. As soon as I asked I regretted asking.

A representative of another telemetry company came over to me for a chat and was quite upset about the fact that there were so many telemetry companies exhibiting. But this should be very good for you, the consumer. I’ll have more to say about this in another blog entry.

GPS Interference Tests

Thursday, October 13th, 2005

We all understand how the GPS system operates, especially if you are using GPS on wildlife. And everyone knows that your GPS collars acquire signals from GPS satellites in order to obtain locations right? But did you know that there are times at which the signals coming from those GPS satellites are interferred with? From time to time, the federal government of The United States conducts interference tests in certain areas. They alert us to those tests before they perform them. To find out if there is one scheduled in your area, check out this website

A New Way?

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

As you may already know, Telemetry Solutions is working on changing the way things are done in this industry. This blog is part of that change. I think that this industry needs to shift the focus onto the customers. It seems to me that for years the focus has been on the manufacturers doing what they think is best…..leaving the customers to either like it or lump it. As a consumer on the planet Earth, I know the difference between good customer service and bad customer service. At least for me, good customer service is highly desireable and keeps me coming back to the same companies over and over. So, if you want good customer service……keep an eye on the development of our new GPS collar and become a customer. If you want the same kind of service that you can get from a phone company…..well, good luck to you.

Of course, without a good product good customer service is kind of useless. We plan on covering that base as well and we are working on it now. Keep reading this blog and I will bring you up to speed on our plans.
